Shot a coyote Saturday (OK, just a photo)
« on: September 26, 2010, 09:11:53 PM »

I was driving to Walla Walla where I would be umpiring a D3 college tennis tournament, when I spotting this coyote, perhaps only about 200 yards away.  I pulled off the road (US 12) and broke out the camera.  I was shooting with a light morning haze in the air, into the sun, so the details aren't too crisp.

I thought it might be instructive to see how he would react to one of my calls, so I broke out a howler. He looked at me for 2 seconds, and then skedaddled. Methinks my howling technique needs some refinement.  Good to know.

Hope springs eternal.  I had packed all my hunting gear with the hopes of getting a stand or two in before dark (not near where this photo was taken) as I returned from my gig Sunday (now, only a few hours ago). I had the time, and the daylight, but my legs were sore and my feet blistered from being on the courts a total of 23 hours.  I couldn't drag myself out of the car to hunt. (Shows lack of dedication.  I know.)
Live all you can: It’s a mistake not to.
